Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship

A Metal Fabricator Apprentice will be manufacturing anything that can be fabricated out of metal, such as bridges, oil rigs and ships.

Overview

A Metal Fabricator Apprentice will be manufacturing anything that can be fabricated out of metal, such as bridges, oil rigs and ships. This Apprenticeship will develop skills in welding, metal handling and the use of a variety of manufacturing tools.

You will:

  • Plan and prepare of metal fabrication activities before commencing work
  • Check that all materials conform to the specified grades, dimensions and thicknesses identified on detailed engineering drawings
  • Intemperate technical drawings, patterns, templates and specifications to mark out
  • Produce and assemble complex fabricated products to meet the required specification and quality requirements
  • Cut, drill, shape and prepare metal materials during fabrication activities using manual and power tools and thermal and laser cutting
  • Carry out quality checks on component parts and completed assemblies
  • Comply and ensure safe working practices at all times
  • Monitor resources and activities throughout the fabrication of products or components, identifying areas and improve the production process where possible

Entry Requirements

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. You will need to have achieved the Engineering Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship and as a guide, you ideally need GCSE grade 4 in English Language and Maths. However, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme.

Apprentices have access to all facilities across the College. These include the College Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) and the College Gym.
