Travel – where you live to where you learn

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to get from where you live to where you learn. We realise that transport can be difficult across Devon so we’ve put together this section to give you the up-to-date information about public transport, costs and how to reach us.

What’s it like to travel to Exeter College?

Travel passes and costs

All students on full-time courses, aged 16 - 18 years old are entitled to help with travelling to Exeter College, regardless of any other assistance they may be receiving (eg EMA).

If you live more than three miles from College:-

You can apply for a subsidised travel pass through your County Council Education Department. Contact them directly during May/June, you should be able to get an application form from your school. The County Council will assess your application and they will send you a letter telling you of their decision. If you receive a letter of refusal from the Council do not worry. Exeter College also runs a subsidised travel scheme which may help you in this position (but you must have applied to the County Council first).

For more information you will need to contact the College Travel Scheme Administrator:
Telephone: (01392) 205319
Email: emmamilburn@exe-coll.ac.uk

(If you live in Dorset, you should contact the Exeter College Travel Scheme Administrator direct).

Both the County Council and college schemes operate using public transport. You will be supplied with a bus or train pass (or both if necessary) to allow you to get to college for 9am and return home at the end of the college day. You will need to make a contribution towards the cost of the pass. But, if you or your family are in receipt of benefits you may not need to make this contribution. (Click here to see information about the Learner Support Fund and how it can help with costs).

If you live in the Exeter City Council area:-

As a 16 – 18 year old student on a full-time course living in Exeter, if you/your family pay Council tax to Exeter City Council, you are entitled to discounted travel on Stagecoach buses. At your enrolment you can get the discount travel pass, as long as you have proof of enrolment and a passport photo with you. These passes allow you to a third off your bus fare on any Stagecoach bus as long as the journey starts and ends in Exeter.

If you miss getting your travel pass at enrolment you can complete an application form later from college and get it stamped by the College Registry department. The passes can then be issued at the Exeter City Council offices or Stagecoach travel shop.
