What kind of help is available?
Learner Support Fund - for students in further education
The Learner Support Fund (LSF) has helped over 700 students
so far this year in a variety of different ways. A large number of students have received financial help with the
essential course costs, such as
equipment, uniforms, books and materials.
There are also a significant number of students attending Exeter College that have children. The LSF has helped these students with the cost of childcare,
enabling them to combine parenthood with studying successfully.
For many students facing financial hardship, the LSF can be the ‘key’ in enabling them to succeed at Exeter College and secure a better future.
Students, full and part-time, who are already at the college and staying
on next year can apply NOW for the Learner Support Fund. Students wishing to
join us in September 2010 CAN ALSO APPLY NOW.
Though no funding can be released until the start of term, applications will be acknowledged and a letter will be sent informing applicants of the financial help they are likely to receive. This should help prospective students to make a more informed choice about joining Exeter College.
As well as the LSF, there may
be alternative sources of funding available to many students that require additional help.
The student welfare advisor can also help students with issues surrounding childcare, benefits, attendance, supported housing and emergency accommodation.

EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance)
Do you want to continue in learning after 16 but are worried about money?
If you're worried about being short of cash, if you carry on learning in England, think again, because Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA for short) can help you stay on course for a brighter future.
If you continue to learn and develop your skills, you could receive up to £30 a week to help you out with things like books, travel and equipment. The money the EMA could give you means you'll be able to concentrate on enjoying your course or programme without worrying so much about money.
