Course Fees

Money matters so read on to find out the finance facts.

Study First. Pay back when you’re earning

Fees and help available

From September 2006, parents and students have not had to pay up-front tuition fees either before or during their higher education. Instead, both new and existing full time students will be able to take out a tuition fee loan*, which they will start repaying after they leave higher education and are in work and earning more than £15,000 per year.

Universities and colleges are able to charge varying fees for their higher education courses. The tuition fees for full-time courses in 2010-2011 at Exeter College are:

BA Business Management - £1,890
Foundation Degree - £1,890 (for each of the two years)
HNC (Fast track) - £2,200
HND - £1,890 per year

Please note that these fees are subject to increase for 2011-2012.

If you would like to study part-time or on a modular basis the fees in 2010-2011 are:

HNC - £320 per module
HNC Civil Engineering - £1100 PER YEAR
HNC Engineering - £1100 PER YEAR
HND - £320 per module

Additional costs:
Please refer to individual course pages to find information about additional costs for your course if relevant.

Eligible full time students can also apply for a living costs loan* which you don’t have to start to pay back until you’ve left your course and are in work and earning over £15,000 per year.

There is also extra help from other sources for students with dependants, which is also means-tested, and help towards childcare, books and travel.

*How much you repay on the tuition and living costs loans is based on the amount you earn, not the amount you owe, so if you are on the average starting salary of a graduate level job of £18,000 you would repay £5.19 per week.

Maintenance Grants

If your parents’ income or your partner’s income is below a certain amount, you may get help towards your living costs in the form of a non-repayable grant of up to £2,906 per year. Around half of all new full-time students are expected to get help with this grant – how much students will get, will depend on their household income. There is more information in the DfES booklet ‘Financial Support for Students’.

The college may be able to help you with your fees or living expenses. You can apply to the Access to Learning Fund if you have enrolled on your course and applied for all other sources of income and support but still find that you are in financial difficulties. The standard award is to help with the general costs of being a student but there is a non-standard award that can help students meet exceptional costs that arise in an emergency.
