Charlotte, BA Business Management

"I chose to study at Exeter as I enjoy living in the city and the college is a very welcoming, accessible place to study – plus I knew they offered the BA route after my HND! Being able to study and work at the same time has not only helped in terms of earnings but has also given me a very direct relationship between study and practice. I appreciate the smaller lecture groups where I can ask questions and interact with tutors and classmates. After the course I'm keen to use my skills to work in industry and I have a long term goal of starting my own business one day."

Lydia

Lydia Former PGCE student

"After working as a psychiatric nurse for 27 years I decided it was time for a change. I began to wonder how I could go about doing something a little bit different and use my existing skills and experience, I realised that teaching would be perfect. My first essay was like a child’s, but by the end of the course I was writing at Master’s level. I felt like my tutors believed in me and the support I received from them was excellent. I’m currently lecturing in Health and Social Care at a further education college in Cornwall."

Justin

Justin, Foundation Degree Mechanical Engineering

"I always wanted to build up a career in engineering and I chose to study at Exeter College because it offered the right course for an affordable fee and it’s also part of the University of Plymouth which makes further studies easier. Most of the students in my class work as engineers and they explain their work experience on certain topics which enhance my knowledge. Studies aren’t just writing on boards it includes videos and research which makes it fun and we learn more. After this course I will be continuing with mechanical engineering at university. The teachers are always around to help you out anytime."

Amy

Amy, Foundation Degree Public Services

"I joined the course with a view to pursuing a career in Emergency Planning. As part of the Work Based Learning element of the course I was able to get a paid placement with Plymouth City Council’s Civil Protection Unit for six months. During this time I was able to work with the team and partner agencies on a National Grade Am Nuclear exercise called Exercise Short Sermon which has given me a good insight into the organisations involved. I feel my experiences on the Foundation Degree have greatly improved my employability in the public sector."

Stephanie

Stephanie, ILEX

"I chose ILEX to give myself the best opportunity to further my legal studies in an environment I knew I could happily progress. The individual lecturers give great insight to law. Although the college is large there is a close knit feel to the college and both students and staff alike make it a great place to be. I hope to study further modules to progress to doing a legal practice course and eventually qualify as a solicitor."

David

David, Foundation Degree Coaching and Fitness

"I've always had an interest in sport and I started a new sport in wheelchair badminton and got interested in the coaching and development side of it. The college is convenient as I live down the road and the course is flexible which fits in with my busy lifestyle. The small groups are nice and you get to know each other well. I most enjoy the psychology part of the course and the coaching sessions to each other."

Sharon

Sharon, HND Business (Top-up)

"I wanted to gain a qualification for what I was doing in my employment and to enhance my future employment options. I chose Exeter College because it is local to my home and it has a strong reputation for achieving good results. I most enjoy having to use my brain and my initiative in my personal research for completing assignments. I also greatly enjoy the company of others on the course and the friendly, understanding lecturers. Exeter College is a friendly, welcoming establishment with approachable lecturers and helpful admin staff. The college lecturers understand the pressures of HE learners and their personal life balances. After this course I’m considering continuing with study and taking the degree course."
