Life in Exeter

Exeter is a vibrant student city, with a rich history and modern amenities.

The city itself is in a beautiful location, set on the River Exe in the Devon countryside, close to the sea. Though it is quite small (approximately 118,000 inhabitants), its status as the capital of Devon means it has all the facilities of a much larger city.

Exeter's attractions include theatres, cinemas, the Cathedral, historic buildings, a wide range of internationally-recognised shops and pleasant traffic-free walks and an attractive riverside.

Travel

Travelling around the rest of the UK and Europe is easy; there are fast rail and bus links to all major locations. London is approximately 3 hours away by train. London airports are easily reached, as are the regional airports of Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth.

Religion

There are many churches in Exeter belonging to different Christian denominations and an Anglican Cathedral centrally located. Exeter Synagogue, located off Mary Arches Street, is the third oldest synagogue in Britain. Exeter's mosque & Islamic Centre is on York Road, and serves the Southwest region as well as the city.
