From School to College – 8 easy steps

From School to College – 8 easy steps

Follow our vital guide below to make sure you get on the course you want.If you’re in school talk to your student recruitment officer if you need any help with this.

1. Decide on the course(s) you would like to do

Find out as much as possible about your course by …

  • looking in the Full time guide – your school will have given you one or you can click here for a downloadable version.
  • looking at course information by using our training and course section.
  • coming to our open events – they’re a great way to get a ‘taste’ of the college!

2. Fill in an Application Form

Fill out an application form and return to us by the end of January. Some courses are very popular which is why we give students a deadline. But remember there will always be something for you at Exeter College. Talk to us if you miss this deadline.

3. You’ll get an acknowledgement

We will send you an acknowledgement within a week. If you don’t get an acknowledgement you need to check with us as we might not have received your application form.

4. Come to an interview

We will invite you for an interview when you can discuss your chosen course(s) with tutors. At the interview we will offer you a conditional place at college. This will depend on your GCSE exam results.
Click here to see our interview dates.

5. It's the summertime!

We hope you have a great summer. We haven't forgotten you and we will be sending you a letter by mid August telling you about your personal enrolment appointment in August/September. If you know you'll be away for your appointment please phone us - we can change your appointment. It is important you can make your special appointment.

If you have any questions contact us by:

6. Wait for GCSE results day

Congratulations – if your grades are what you expected – see you at College. Grades not quite what you expected? Don’t panic – ring our dedicated GCSE helpline on 0845 111 6000 to find out if you’re on the right course or what other course might suit you.

7. Come along to your Enrolment appointment

We will have sent you an invite during the summer, to come to your personal enrolment appointment with your tutor. At enrolment you will also sort out travel passes, finance, Student Union card and many other things. If you are on holiday for Enrolment day, then simply phone to book a more suitable time.

8. Term starts  – you’re on the right course to a brighter future!

If you want to change your course or want to ask a question about anything to do with College, then talk to us – we’re not like a school – we’re open all through the summer.
