Access to HE Diploma: Sports Science, Coaching and Performance
Level: Level 3      Part-time  - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9.15am-3.00pm (hours may vary)

What will I be doing on the course/training?

The field of sport at Higher Education is an increasingly popular area with the ability to progress into careers in many different aspects of the industry. The overall aim of the course is to introduce you to the structure and function of the human body, how it reacts to exercise and the adaptations that take place through long term training. The programme of study will encompass the following two modules of study:

Core Units: - Preparation for Higher Education, Information Technology, Maths and English, Study Skills.

Subject Options:

Module 1: Sports Science and Therapy
You will cover: Human Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, Training Principles, Sports Injuries, Rehabilitation.

Module 2: Coaching and Sports Performance
You will cover: Sports Psychology, Coaching Principles, Ethics and Values, Fitness Testing, Practical Coaching.

What are the entry requirements?

You should be able to evidence participation in sport or involvement in coaching and have a clear idea of a career path within sport. It is essential to have the motivation to progress on to Higher Education. Evidence will be required of previous study in Maths, English and Science at level 2. You will also be required to have an interview.

On successful completion of this programme you will be able to progress through to study at Higher Education in a related subject area.

How do I study the course/training and how will I be assessed?

You will be encouraged to apply the theoretical aspects of the programme to a practical environment as well as undertake practical coaching, along with testing and measuring procedures. The approach will be that of an investigative method where you will be encouraged to research widely both within publications and also the internet. It will also be important to translate this into a practical environment. You will be expected to complete a minimum of 10 hours private study per week. The course carries numerous internal assessments through the production of assignments.

What facilities are there?

You will have access to a learning resource centre. There is a refectory in the Hele Building.

Fee: £620.00; Reduced fee: £285.00

Additional costs:

£60 Sports Kit and £40 CRB check.
