How long is the course/training? This is a one-year course.

What will I be doing on the course/training?

This course is designed to meet industry standards and provides a good grounding for you to go on to a higher level course or to start work. It covers all the required foundation skills, including domestic piping, the domestic water system, soldering, and health and safety. Within this course you will be required to demonstrate safe working practices.

What are the entry requirements?

This is a progression course, therefore successful completion of the Level 1 ASET course or 14-16 programme (where plumbing principles were covered) are required in order to be considered for this course. Adequate Literacy and Numeracy levels are also required and these will be considered during the application and interview process. Note: Applications for direct enrolment onto this course may be considered on an individual basis by a course specialist.

What can I do after this course/training?

Subject to securing an employer/adequate work experience opportunities, you can progress onto an Apprenticeship or an Advanced Apprenticeship, working towards an NVQ and attending the college on a day release basis. This route will enable you to work towards becoming a fully qualified Plumber.

How do I study the course/training and how will I be assessed?

The course consists of classroom based theory and practical sessions in the workshop. Assessment will be through a combination of online exams and practical exercises.

What will the course/training cost me?

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).

Additional costs:

You will need to be equipped with basic stationery for all your sessions. You will need to have your own overalls and safety boots- advice will be given at interview. You will be required to purchase a subject specific course book to be advised either at interview or at the start of the course.
