How long is the course/training? This is a two-year course.

What will I be doing on the course/training?

A practical, work-related course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It is equivalent to 3 GCE A levels. The Diploma provides both a broad foundation of business education and firm basis for specialising in a selected avenue of business activity. The course is made up of 18 units - 4 core and 14 specialist units.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need at least five GCSEs at grade C or a BTEC First Level 2 at Merit grade. You must have English Language and Maths at C grade (or Level 2 equivalent). You will also need a reference from your former tutor.

What can I do after this course/training?

BTEC National Diplomas are valued by employers and lead to career opportunities in business specialisms such as finance, human resources, management or marketing. Learners may also progress within employment to professional qualifications such as those offered by the Chartered Institutes of Marketing Management Accountants and Personnel Development. You will need to achieve a minimum of 3 merits to go to university.

How do I study the course/training and how will I be assessed?

The units are all internally assessed by coursework and checked by Edexcel. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all learners who successfully complete all units. The units are given a point score which will relate to a range of 3 grades such as Pass, Pass, Pass; Pass, Merit, Merit; to Merit, Distinction, Distinction; or Distinction, Distinction, Distinction.

What facilities are there?

You will have access to a learning resource centre. There is a refectory in Victoria House. Students have the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities.

What will the course/training cost me?

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).

Additional costs:

Text book costs approximately £45.00. There may be the opportunity for day trips or a residential which will be costed separately.
