How long is the course/training? This is a one-year course.

What will I be doing on the course/training?

The foundation year is an intense and exciting period of study where you will be offered insights into a wide range of different disciplines such as painting, printmaking, 3D materials, fashion/textiles, photography, animation, video, illustration, graphic design and drawing. A programme of critical and contextual studies supports studio practice and aims to provide you with historical, theoretical, cultural, social and political contexts for the practical work.

What are the entry requirements?

You should normally have a minimum of 5 subjects at GCSE and usually have studied at A2 level or have completed an AVCE or National Diploma in Art and Design programme. Students are asked to present a portfolio of visual work that demonstrates an interest and curiosity in the visual world and a desire to communicate.

What can I do after this course/training?

You could progress onto an Honours Degree or Foundation Degree in a related area as well as seek employment in the industry.

How do I study the course/training and how will I be assessed?

All students are supported by lecturers with a subject specialism and a personal tutor. The course is assessed by coursework throughout the year.

What facilities are there?

The Art and Design Department has eighteen art studios, a Print workshop, a Ceramics workshop, a 3D workshop, Photographic darkrooms, Photoshop and PremierPro software on PCs.

What will the course/training cost me?

Full-time fee in 2010-11 will be in the region of £1,650 (if you are aged 19 or over).
