Exeter College - Music Academy

What does being a Music Academy student mean?

  • You will be part of an inspiring and enthusiastic group of musicians and be supported by the best music teachers in the area.
  • You will receive excellent guidance about transferring to higher education at the end of your level 3 music course. You will also benefit from our strong links with music conservatoires.
  • You will have the opportunity to meet a number of guest speakers who will be giving a range of master classes and talks, and to take part in workshops.
  • You will receive free individual tuition on your chosen instrument (25 30-minute lessons in your first year and 22 30-minute lessons in year 2).

  • You will receive a 50% reduction in cost for at least two ‘outside’ professional music performances during the year.
  • You will have the chance to become a Music Academy Ambassador for the college, performing at open events to members of the public.

What are the entry criteria?

  • Students must show a commitment to music education and performance by enroling on at least one level 3 music performance course, plus two musical enrichment activities, or two level 3 music performance related courses plus one musical enrichment activity.
  • Students must be of a standard approximately equivalent to grade 5 on their chosen instrument or voice.

Conditions

Students must be enroled onto at least one Music performance related course (see list in Box A below) Students are to commit to at least one Enrichment activity (see Box B below) .

  • National Award Music Performance (2 year course)
  • National Award Music performance (1 year)
  • National Diploma Music (counts as two)

  • Big Band
  • Chamber Orchestra
  • Orchestra
  • Wind Band
  • Musical Theatre Production
  • Student Choir
  • Inspirational Choir (choir or band)
  • Victoria Singers
  • Band or Orchestra for Performing Arts productions, as appropriate (within college)
  • Music Academy Ambassador performance

Instrumental Music Lessons

At Exeter College we have experienced instrumental staff to teach any instrument. Depending on the academic course, there are different entitlements to the amount of lessons taught throughout the year.

Fee

£100 per year fee to be paid during Induction week at Exeter College.

Fee bursary

A bursary award will be available to students judged on financial background and special circumstances.
