Learning Resources
College isn’t just about students getting high quality teaching from tutors! It’s
also about making sure that you have the resources you need to learn and train.
It doesn’t matter if you are on a full-time or part-time course or training, your
chances of success are even better because of our fantastic Learning Centres and
the resources they offer.
Exeter College is e-friendly!
Exeter College invests heavily in Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
so that you get the benefit from up-to-date e-learning and e-business opportunities.
Wherever you are in the college, you’ve
got easy access to our high-speed network which delivers internet,
email, file-sharing and other specialist services to over 1,500 desktop computers.
All college members have access to a personal network account which includes
email, file storage space and a wide range of electronic resources. Most
of these services are accessible from any internet connected computer outside as
well as inside the college.
When you’re not in timetabled classes, there are around 300 PCs located
in 5 open access Learning Centres. Specialist support staff are
available in each centre to help you with enquiries about subject-specific software
and specialist equipment. You can book computers and media equipment using our online booking systems
via the intranet and extranet.
An increasingly large number of teaching rooms are equipped with
multimedia projectors and sound systems allowing teachers to make extensive use
of video and other media in taught sessions. Students on most courses make
use of a wide range of electronic learning materials
made available online. Most of these resources can be accessed any-time any-place and, increasingly,
electronic systems are being used for work-submission, marking and feedback.
The college portal provides
personalised access to college resources and systems via PCs and hand-held
devices such as smart phones and PDAs. The wireless (WiFi) service covers 99% of
college buildings.
Exeter College has five Learning Centres each equipped with periodicals, specialist
equipment, computers, books, online resources and software to support your work and help you become an effective and independent learner.
In your first year at college you'll
take part in our comprehensive
Information Skills programme, which will help you make the
most of those resources.
Specialist staff in the Learning Centres are able to help
you with a wide range of information and research requests and you can also borrow books, DVDs and media equipment such as cameras and camcorders to help illustrate your
work. Each
Learning Centre has a stock of stationery, media and art materials for sale and
offers a first point of contact for help with passwords and other ICT related questions.
