Sheila’s substantive career was in the secondary sector of education. She has taught in a range of schools across the country. Although having taught almost entirely in comprehensive schools (the largest being 1750), she has also taught children with disabilities in a small residential school. Sheila’s career culminated in the Headship of a mixed, multi-racial school in the City of Nottingham.

On taking early retirement, Sheila moved back to the county of her roots Devon, and became involved in political activities. On and off, she has been either a City Councillor (Exeter) or Devon County Councillor during the last ten years. Sheila particularly enjoys her present position as Culture Portfolio holder on Devon County Council.

A former CAB Advisor, her non-political activities include Governor, Wynstream Primary School, Member of the Court of Exeter University and Board member CAB.
